The proposed new Training Centre will comprise the following facilities.
- An administration centre – 200m² open plan area with work stations and a walk in fire proof safe. The main computer facility will also be housed in this section behind high security measures.
- A residence block – 50m², X18 rooms which can sleep up to six persons per room, each with their own bathroom.
- Mess facilities – at least 75m²
- Recreational facilities – at least 75m²
- Students study room – at least 75m²
- Lecture room facilities – at least 1200m² in total. It will consist of 12 boardroom type rooms.
- Galley for training and providing daily meals – 100m² with walk-in storage facilities.
- Wave Pool for realistic survival training – 20mX10mX5m
- Damage control and fire fighting training simulators will be combined and built exactly like a ship, with a bridge which will be used as a control centre. The entire unit can also be used for breathing apparatus drills as well as search and rescue facilities. – Total 180m² X 3 Floors
- Pump room for pool and simulators – 50m²
- Engineering block – 250m² which will be comprised of workshop/s and a realistic engine room for simulations.
- IT Department for electronic navigation simulators – 50m²
This means that the basic facility (excluding the fire fighting and damage control simulators) will require a 2 story building with approximately 800m² to a 1000m² per floor. All simulators and the pool are built in such a way as to allow for grand slam training, which will give learners a feel for any major emergency onboard a ship, all occurring at the same time. |
